Calderdale Energy Park

A nationally significant renewable energy project located at Walshaw Moor to the north of Hebden Bridge in Calderdale, West Yorkshire.

About the proposal

Calderdale Energy Park is a nationally significant renewable energy project located at Walshaw Moor to the north of Hebden Bridge in Calderdale, West Yorkshire. The current design features up to 41 wind turbines and battery energy storage system (BESS) with associated infrastructure, with a total generation capacity of approximately 300MW.

Calderdale Energy Park presents a key opportunity to support the UK Government’s Net Zero targets, particularly given the strong wind resource at Walshaw Moor. The work carried out to date recognises that Calderdale Energy Park would result in some environmental impacts and includes measures to mitigate these and deliver enhancements across areas of the Walshaw Moor Estate.

We have asked the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero to designate Calderdale Energy Park as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) due to its scale and importance in helping the UK Government deliver its net zero targets by 2050. This would also be consistent with the Government’s proposals to bring onshore wind projects with a generation capacity of at least 100MW into the NSIP regime by the end of 2025.

Approximately 300 MW of renewable energy generation

Providing enough energy to power approximately 250,000 homes per year

Reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 354,000 tonnes each year
