Our Proposals

We are proposing up to 41 wind turbines up to a tip height of 200m and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), together with all necessary associated temporary and permanent infrastructure.
This includes new access points, tracks, turbine components, hard stands, foundations, associated drainage and cables, substation and control buildings, construction compounds, potential met masts and borrow pits.
We are also proposing to carry out environmental enhancement measures including biodiversity enhancements and water flow retention measures.
A number of design iterations have taken place since 2023, and a summary of these changes is set out below.

Key Changes to the Proposals
- Number of Wind Turbines: We are currently proposing up to 41 wind turbines, a reduction of 24 from the original proposals.
- Solar Panels: Solar panels are no longer part of Calderdale Energy Park.
- Grid Connection: Four options are currently being considered to connect Calderdale Energy Park to the national grid, with the final approach to be determined through ongoing consultation and technical and regulatory assessments.
- Decision-Making Process: As part of recent legislative changes, all onshore wind projects exceeding 100 MW would classified as Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs). To proceed, NSIPs must obtain a Development Consent Order from the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, meaning Calderdale Council will not be the decision maker on the application.
- Access Routes: A detailed transport strategy is being developed to ensure safe and efficient delivery of large and abnormal components along with the necessary construction plant and materials while minimising disruption to local communities. Two options are currently being considered to provide access to the site.
An opportunity for Calderdale
Calderdale Energy Park will be a sustainable, renewable energy project that will play a vital role in the UK’s energy security and climate goals. Calderdale Energy Park strikes a balance between the management of environmental sensitivities in the local area and the need for clean, renewable energy, while also delivering long-term benefits to the local community and the wider region.

Key features of Calderdale Energy Park include:
Up to 41 Wind Turbines
These turbines will harness the Moor’s wind resources to generate renewable energy, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and supporting the UK’s Net Zero targets.
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
To regulate the supply of power to the national grid, we propose a state-of-theart energy storage solution that will store excess energy generated during periods of high wind and release it when it is most needed, ensuring stable and reliable energy distribution to the national grid.
Substation and Grid Connection
A dedicated substation and grid connection will link Calderdale Energy Park to the national grid, enabling the renewable energy produced to be distributed across the network and bolster national energy security.
Environmental Protection Measures
Our proposals take into account the area’s unique environmental characteristics, including the protection of local wildlife habitats.
We will continue to work with consultees and the community to minimise impacts to the South Pennine Moors SSSI, SAC, and SPA through a carefully thoughtout design, and provide comprehensive environmental mitigation, compensation and enhancement where practicable.
Job Creation and Economic Benefits
Calderdale Energy Park will create significant employment opportunities, both during construction and in long-term operational and maintenance roles.
Additionally, it will inject millions of pounds into the local economy and support regional supply chains.
Community Engagement
We are committed to working closely with local communities to ensure the development aligns with their priorities. A Community Benefit Fund will support local initiatives, and ongoing consultations will provide opportunities for public feedback and collaboration on this fund
