Project Overview

Strengthening the UK’s energy security is a national priority.
The UK needs a greater supply of reliable, home‑grown electricity to reduce reliance on imported fuels and protect households and businesses from volatile global energy markets.
The Government’s ambition to deliver 95% low- carbon electricity by 2030 and reach Net Zero emissions by 2050 reflects this need. Achieving these goals requires a significant increase in domestic renewable energy, supporting local employment, lowering long-term energy costs and ensuring a more resilient and secure energy system for the future.
Wind power is one of the most effective and affordable ways to generate renewable electricity at scale. It does not rely on imported fuels and produces energy without carbon emissions, making it a vital part of the UK’s clean energy strategy.
Calderdale Energy Park directly supports these national priorities. As a new onshore wind development, it would make use of the wind resource at Walshaw Moor to generate home grown, reliable, low-carbon electricity and help meet increasing demand across the UK.
Calderdale Energy Park is expected to generate around 240MW of clean, renewable electricity – enough to power 198,000 homes.
Because of its size the project is classed as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP). This means it will go through the Government’s Development Consent Order (DCO) process. After public consultation and detailed assessment, the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero will decide whether the project can go ahead.
